ADR driver certificate

Drivers carrying dangerous goods above the exemption thresholds must hold a certificate issued by the competent authority after a course and an exam (ADR 8.2.1.1). Within the exemptions, Chapter 1.3 training is enough. Two questions show which path is yours.

  • Valid for 5 years
  • Course at an approved centre
  • Specialisations — tanks, Class 1, Class 7

Which training do you need?

Two questions — and you know whether the certificate applies to you.

Frequently asked

Is the certificate needed for limited quantities?

No. Within Chapter 3.4 and the 1.1.3.6 thresholds the driver certificate is not required, but Chapter 1.3 training is mandatory (ADR 8.2.3) — the Academy online course covers it.

How long is the certificate valid?

Five years from the exam date. Renewal takes refresher training and an exam within the 12 months before expiry (ADR 8.2.2.8.2).

Can the basic course be taken online?

No. The course for the driver certificate runs at an approved training centre and the exam is taken at the competent authority — in Latvia, CSDD. What we run online is the Chapter 1.3 training for work within the exemptions.

What does tank carriage take?

A specialised tank course on top of the basic one (ADR 8.2.1.3) — for fixed or demountable tanks over 1 m³ and tank-containers over 3 m³.
