Placards are the diamond-shaped hazard signs fixed to the outside of tank-containers, portable tanks and vehicles. Under ADR 5.3.1 a placard must match the danger label shown in Column 5 of Table A in Chapter 3.2 for the goods carried, measure at least 250 × 250 mm, and stay legible and weather-resistant for the whole journey.
On a sea container placards go one on each side and one on each end — four positions for every hazard of the cargo (IMDG 5.3.1.1.4.1.1). The container kit builder assembles the full set by UN number, with orange UN panels added when they are required.
